The Cost of Poverty Experience (COPE) is a poverty simulation to help us break down our preconceived notions around poverty. In the span of 2.5 hours, you will live a month in the life of a low-income family and will experience some of the everyday struggles for people in our community living in poverty or struggling financially.
You may step into the role of:
- A single mother struggling to buy groceries for her family
- A lonely senior citizen who much choose between rent and medication
- An unemployed father of 4, struggling with addiction
By participating in this simulation, you will develop a deeper understanding of poverty and the frustrations that many families we serve are faced with on a daily basis.
