At PWUMC, we are dedicated to providing a nurturing, inviting and safe environment for your child. Whether it’s small groups, Vacation Bible School, childcare, children’s arts or any other activity, we strive to present God’s love to each and every child. We have a number of ministries especially geared to children.
If you’re new to Platte Woods UMC, stop by the KIDS Guest Check-In, located on the main floor to get started. If you’d like, you can preregister your kids to speed up the process by clicking below.
Kids (birth-5th) check-in through a secure, computerized check-in prior to entering their age-appropriate room. Check-in stations for all ages are located on the main floor. Every family is assigned a family security code that both child and parent wear. Check-in is available on Sunday mornings beginning at 9:15 and 10:45.
Babies & Toddlers
Children younger than 2 are cared for in our crib nursery or toddler rooms filled with music, story time, and interactive play.
Preschoolers are invited to explore God’s Word in an interactive and engaging way at both 9:30 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. Circle time, music, crafts and games are often a part of their experience.
In our elementary environments, we desire to connect kids to God and one another through high energy worship, engaging Bible stories and small group activities.
Grades 4 & 5
We call it “Route 45!” Preteens in 4th and 5th grades are at a pivotal time in their spiritual life when they often begin to ask questions about faith. We want to offer them a fun and encouraging environment and show them how to apply truths from the Bible to their lives at school, with friends, and at home with their family.
The Good News Company
The Good News Company is a choir for children in grades 1-5. This choir is specifically designed for children who are excited to learn challenging songs, music theory and how to be a part of the worship leadership experience. Choir participants will need to be present at rehearsals and able to perform at periodic worship services and community events. Rehearsals are each Sunday morning from 8:45-9:15 in room 151. For more information, contact Jen Bruce, director of Children’s Ministry.
For more information about our Sunday children’s small groups program, please contact Jen Bruce, director of Children’s Ministry.
WOW – Wednesday Evening Activities
WOW (Wild on Wednesdays)
The WOW program provides a great time of learning through a rotation of choir, dance/sports, Bible study and crafts. Kids are divided into age groups and learn about God in a FUN environment. Participants will be able to show their stuff on Sunday mornings and during two programs throughout the year. WOW meets every Wednesday from 6-7:50 p.m. during the school year. Childcare is also available. For more information, please contact Jen Bruce, Director of Children’s Ministry. Invite a friend to join you for a fun evening.
All children are welcome in our worship services! Worship bags are available for young children and include crayons, coloring pages and a few other quiet activities. Worship bags can be found in the entry to the worship center. Childcare is available during our worship services for children birth through preschool age.
Professional childcare is available for all the Wednesday evening activities, and for other select activities and by request for church group meetings. All of our childcare staff are trained and have completed a Safe Sanctuary and Because We Care screening through our church. Reservations are required for childcare: please contact your group leader for more information.
Because we care deeply about the welfare and safety of every child and youth who participate in the programs and ministries provided by PWUMC, we take seriously our responsibility to do everything in our power to see that no physical, emotional or sexual abuse occurs in any ministry setting sponsored by PWUMC. We recognize every person as a child of God who is created in the image and likeness of God. Therefore, we have a strong commitment to make the church a safe place for children and youth. Supervision policies and procedures are in place.
The PWUMC “Because We Care” policy includes having all adult volunteers screened and registered.
