What worship styles do you offer?

FOR OUR CURRENT COVID-19 POLICIES, PLEASE SEE OUR COVID-19 RESPONSE PAGE.

PWUMC offers three different worship services every week, and we hope you’ll find one that helps you in your journey! Each service has the same sermon, but with different supporting elements and music.

Finding the Right Service For You

Ready for in-person worship? We offer two distinct in-person services every Sunday.

  • Sundays at 9:30 a.m. — contemporary music (K-Love style) and a modern feel, held in the Worship Center (children K-5th worship with their families for the first 15 minutes of worship: visit our Kid Connection page for all the details!)
  • Sundays at 11 a.m. — traditional music (hymns and four-part harmonies) and a more formal feel, held in the Sanctuary

In response to the current Kansas City area mask mandate and in order to continue our primary goal during this pandemic of “do no harm,” masks will be required at all times for everyone ages 5 and up while in the building. Children are always welcome in worship, so we hope your whole family will join us. If you’re new to PWUMC and have questions about our Children’s Ministry, please visit the Kid Connection page or contact Jen Bruce, director of Kid Connection.

Prefer to worship online? Our online service premieres on Facebook Live and our livestream at 9:30 a.m. each Sunday. If that time doesn’t fit into your schedule, you can watch on-demand starting Saturday at noon on our Worship page.

What should I expect when I come to in-person services?

When you visit Platte Woods UMC, we want you to experience genuine hospitality. When you enter our building you will be greeted by a member of our hospitality team who will welcome you into the worship center and help you find Student Ministry and Kid Connection programs. A nursery is available for ages 2 and under.

Services are typically less than hour long, filled with music, prayer and a time for learning God’s Word.

What should I wear?

At Platte Woods United Methodist Church we have a very casual environment and this is reflected in our worship services. There is no official or unofficial dress code. What is important in worship is experiencing God’s presence, not the clothes you wear.

What are our beliefs?

Our Vision Statement:

Leading people to follow Jesus.

Our Purpose:

To build an outwardly focused Christian community of full participants in the life of grace.

We Value:

  • Christ-centeredness
  • Spirit empowered
  • Biblically based
  • Outwardly focused
  • Fruitful
  • Accountable

Our Practices:

  • Radical Hospitality
  • Intentional Faith Development
  • Risk-Taking Mission and Service
  • Passionate Worship
  • Extravagant Generosity

As members of the United Methodist Church, we, along with Christians of other communions, confess belief in the triune God: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. This confession embraces the Biblical witness to God’s activity in creation, encompasses God’s gracious self-involvement in the dramas of history, and anticipates the consummation of God’s reign. For more information about the beliefs and history of the United Methodist Church, visit the national UMC site.
