The Beatitudes are Jesus’ opening statement in his most famous sermon. They proclaim the order of the Kingdom of God, in which the way of the world as we know it is turned upside down. The people we think are not important, the ones we forget to see, the ones who suffer and struggle and are excluded are the ones who are “favored by God.” We will consider the poor, the hungry, the brokenhearted and the excluded and ask ourselves what importance they have in our lives as followers of Jesus.
