Courageous Conversation on Gun Violence

Platte Woods UMC opens Courageous Conversations on Gun Violence at 7:00 p.m. on June 26, 2022. This event will consist of the premiere of the panel discussion as well as a live Q & A time in the Worship Center.

We witness more often that guns kill children, students, teachers, police officers, Christians, and non-Christians every day. No category of person escapes. Gun violence is much more than a political issue. When a human being is killed, the family does not call their senator. They call their pastor or congregation. Dealing with death and its aftermath is a ministry, not a political activity. Why would working to prevent violent deaths be only a political matter?

We will look for better awareness on gun violence. We will listen and converse with panelists who have experienced or been exposed to gun violence and explore what the church says about this topic. In addition, we will provide follow-up resources for groups as well as create groups for those who would like to continue the discussion, learning to stop gun violence and care for the family members of victims in our local community.
