Styrofoam Collection
Thanks to the passion and dedication of one of our members, we are excited to announce a new opportunity to recycle your Styrofoam! Beginning Sunday, September 29th, we will be collecting Styrofoam on the LAST SUNDAY of each month.
Why recycle Styrofoam? Styrofoam, also known as expanded polystyrene (EPS), is a common material used in packaging, insulation, and disposable food containers. Despite its convenience, Styrofoam poses significant environmental challenges due to its non-biodegradable nature. Recycling Styrofoam helps reduce solid waste, conserves resources, and prevents pollution.
Acceptable donations can be dropped off in the collection bin in the Gathering Space. Please see guidelines below:
- Only clean Styrofoam will be accepted. No marks, paint, stickers or tape.
- No food or drink containers (such as Styrofoam cups or takeout containers) can be included.
-Must be white, rigid (not soft) material
This is a wonderful way to be good stewards of the environment, and we appreciate your cooperation in following the guidelines. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out!
Any questions, contact Brandi Molina
Saturday Go Serve
Saturday Go Serve Opportunities
Saturday Go Serve is a time to focus on how we can begin (or continue) a spiritual rhythm of going in acts of mercy and justice and pilgrimage through serving with our ministry partners. PWC has traditionally set aside the 2nd Saturday of each month to serve in the community.
Hillcrest Clearance Outlet: Hillcrest Platte County offers supportive services for individuals and families who are homeless or insecurely housed to achieve sustainable independence. The thrift stores exist to help pay the bills for those who participate in the Hillcrest Transitional Housing programs. By volunteering at the clearance outlet, you are helping support their programs and providing a hand up to those working to transition from homelessness to self-sufficiency. Volunteers in the Clearance Outlet help sort and organize donations and clean the store. This opportunity is most appropriate for ages 8 and up. Volunteers 15 and under should be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
Lazarus Table/Boutique: Every weekend Lazarus Ministries serves around 100 hot meals through their meal program known as Lazarus Table. They have kitchen staff that cook and clean dishes and utilize volunteer teams of 10-12 people each day to set up, prep, and serve meals restaurant style and clean up afterward. This is an opportunity of fellowship and serving those facing poverty or homelessness in the urban core of Kansas City. This opportunity is for all ages and abilities. Volunteers 15 and under should be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
Northland Community Clean-up: This is a grassroots non-profit organization that is led by PWC member, Nancy Gorton. This group of volunteers work to improve the cleanliness, beauty, and safety of our community through on-going litter clean-up efforts. PWC partners with them every 2nd Saturday in various locations throughout the Northland. Most clean-up events take place along busy roads/highways. This opportunity is open to ages 14 and up with parent/guardian participation unless noted on the sign-up.
Event Contact: Brandi Molina, Director of Missions - Reach out to Brandi if you have questions or concerns about specific volunteer locations.
Register for your project below! Volunteers meet at their respective serve location on Saturday morning.

Rejoice in Giving
Platte Woods Church continues the tradition of providing hope and dignity to local families during the Christmas season by equipping them to create their own holiday experience through Rejoice in Giving. You can support our holiday outreach by giving financially, donating gifts from our Amazon Wish List or choosing items to donate from our Giving Wall (located in the Gathering Space starting November 17th), or signing up to Serve. Click here to see all of the ways you can participate!
Families that are recipients of our holiday assistance provide us with a wish list of personalized needs and wants for each family member. These gift requests will be displayed in the Gathering Space for you to shop for starting November 17th. We do this so that each gift is individualized for every child, so they feel valued and loved.
We distribute the gifts directly to the parents and guardians so that they have the opportunity to wrap and prepare the gifts themselves and experience the gift of giving to their families.
If you know a family that needs some additional help this season, please have them contact Brandi Molina, director of outreach and missions.
