The Pot of Gold Small Group invites you to a special screening of the award-winning documentary film “1946: The Mistranslation that Shifted Culture” on Sunday, April 21 beginning at 5:30pm in Room 251. This 90-minute documentary chronicles how the misuse of a single word changed the course of modern history and Biblical translation and understanding for the last seven decades. This documentary chronicles the discovery of never-before-seen archives at Yale University, unveiling new revelations, and casting significant doubt on any biblical basis for LGBTQIA+ prejudice. Featuring commentary from prominent scholars as well as opposing pastors and theologians, including a very personal story from the film’s creator, 1946 is at once challenging, enlightening, and inspiring. Join the Pot of Gold small group on Sunday, April 21 at 5:30pm in Room 251 at PWC to learn and discover together!
Many of us believe that we aren’t good enough to meet other people’s expectations. Maybe we can’t wrap words around why, but lurking beneath the surface of the carefully curated façade we present in public, it’s there. Being missed and marginalized by others moves us to assume we’re not quite good enough for God either. The great news woven throughout the Gospel according to Luke is that perfection is not a prerequisite for a deep and personal relationship with Jesus. In fact, this riveting account reveals that Jesus is especially fond of ragamuffins in need of a safe place to lean in and linger!
Traveling the journey of grief was never meant to be a journey we walked through alone. Our Care Ministry provides a weekly support group for anyone seeking to heal after a loss. Our leaders have training and personal experience with loss. Our winter session will begin January 9, 2024 at 6:00 pm.
This is a hybrid class that meets in-person and online. Please contact Vicki Krehbiel at vkrehbiel@plattewoodschurch.org for the Zoom link.
The Bible inspired many people to do amazing things. Are you curious to understand what the Bible meant to them? And what does it mean to you now? Through the “How to read the Bible (Part 1: the Old Testament)” course, you can learn about the Bible’s larger story and gain a new perspective to read it well.

Sometimes the most painful and heartbreaking parts of our lives are hardest to let others hold with us. So we bury our grief deep within. This will be a service of prayer and quiet and an act of remembrance. It will be a time to come together and commemorate and hold tenderly the loss of children that so many have experienced through miscarriage, infertility or death. Our language is lament to God, and our work is care for one another. All genders and ages are invited.
PWUMC has traditionally set aside one Saturday of each month as a day to serve together. Serving together as a church is an amazing opportunity to bless others and be blessed by going out into our community to show the love of Christ in real and tangible ways.

These kits provide essential items like soap, toothpaste, and other hygiene products that have been identified as a need by our partners at the Bear Program.bmolina@plattewoodschurch.org or visit our Saturday Go Serve sign-up.
