Southeast Star Friends is a program in partnership with Southeast Elementary School. Star Friends connects caring adult volunteers with students at the school to serve as positive adult role models and friends to selected students in need of additional support.
Students are invited to be paired with a Star Friend volunteer for thirty minutes to an hour each week during the school day. We work with the school social worker to carefully match the interests and unique needs of the student with the experience and skills of the Star Friends volunteer.
The program’s goal is to build a positive relationship between a student and a caring adult role model through meaningful and authentic interactions. The program stives to build student resiliency and empowers students to be successful in and outside of the academic world.
