Because we know that different people have different tastes in music, we offer a variety of musical styles at our worship services.
Saturday Night Chapel, Saturdays, 5 p.m. in the sanctuary
A come-as-you-are, casual atmosphere worship experience. A pianist provides the accompaniment for traditional hymns and gospel music, along with occasional contemporary songs. This small, informal service is perfect for those looking for a small group of people who enjoy traditional church music.
Traditional, Sundays, 8:00 a.m. in the sanctuary
A warm and meditative service including gospel and traditional hymns and anthems. Worship is led by our Jubilante Singers and the service is accompanied by organ and piano. Holy Communion will be incorporated into the service each week. If you’re looking for a smaller traditional service, complete with liturgy and creeds, this is the service for you!
Praise, Sundays, 9:15 a.m. in the worship center
An upbeat worship experience will now focus more on contemporary music led by the Praise Team and a small instrumental group led by Walter Bryant. Most weeks, Senior Pastor Steve Breon will bring the message. Our largest service, this hour is attended by people of all ages and interests.
Modern, Sundays, 10:45 a.m. in the worship center
Modern worship styles blend together with prayer and teaching to create an environment where everyone can encounter the fullness of God wherever they are in life. Each week many different talented volunteer musicians join Mat Thornton, worship leader. Worship styles range from folksy acoustic to big electric contemporary styles.
Traditional, Sundays, 10:45 a.m. in the sanctuary
Our Wesleyan Choir, with piano and organ, will lead music during the service. The hour will also include creeds, responsive readings and other elements of traditional worship. Invite your friends and neighbors who are looking for a traditional worship time to join you for this service.
With our new space, our existing sanctuary and the many talented musicians and groups who already serve in worship, we have the ability to offer a wide range of worship experiences. People from all walks of life join together to follow Jesus in community. It is our hope that anyone, regardless of age or style preference, can find a service that is truly meaningful for them.
What should I expect when I come to services?
When you visit Platte Woods UMC, we want you to experience genuine hospitality. When you enter our building there will be someone waiting to greet you. As you enter into our worship center, you will be greeted by one of our ushers, who will help you find anything that you might need.
Childcare is available during all of our worship services and the ushers will be more than happy to help you find those rooms. When bringing your child for the first time, please allow extra time so that we can register your child and ensure we know any information needed to make your child’s experience a wonderful one!
Our services are typically an hour long, filled with singing, prayer and a time for learning God’s Word. During the worship service, we will take up an offering. As our guest for worship, you are not expected or required to make an offering. What we do request is that you register in our black registration pads to tell us a little about yourself.
Every Sunday between our morning worship services we gather for free coffee and donuts in our dining hall. Please join us for this time of fellowship — our ushers can direct you to the dining hall. The cafe on the main floor also offers different coffees as well as fresh-baked muffins for a suggested donation.
What should I wear?
At Platte Woods United Methodist Church we have a very casual environment and this is reflected in our worship services. There is no official or unofficial dress code — feel free to come as you are. If you are comfortable wearing a suit and tie, you will not stand out in the crowd, but if you worship the Lord best in jeans, you will not be alone. What is important in worship is experiencing God’s presence, not the clothes you wear.
What are our beliefs?
Our Vision Statement:
Leading people to follow Jesus.
To build an outwardly focused Christian community of full participants in the life of grace.
- Spirit empowered
- Biblically based
- Outwardly focused
- Radical Hospitality
- Intentional Faith Development
- Risk-Taking Mission and Service
- Passionate Worship
- Extravagant Generosity
As members of the United Methodist Church, we, along with Christians of other communions, confess belief in the triune God: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. This confession embraces the Biblical witness to God’s activity in creation, encompasses God’s gracious self-involvement in the dramas of history, and anticipates the consummation of God’s reign.
