Overview

At PWUMC, we are dedicated to providing a nurturing, inviting and safe environment for your child. Whether it’s Small Groups, Vacation Bible School, childcare, children’s arts or any other activity, we strive to present God’s love to each and every child. We have a number of ministries especially geared to children.

Sunday Children’s Small Groups

Preschool
A small group atmosphere for our 2-year-olds through preschool is offered at 9:15a.m., 10:45 a.m.  Children explore God’s Word in an interactive and engaging way as they also get to know a group of children.  Circle time, music, crafts and games are often a part of their experience.  Children younger than 2 are cared for in our crib nursery or toddler room, and also have brief, age-appropriate lessons each week.

Elementary Students
A small group atmosphere for our Elementary age students is offered at 9:15 a.m. & 10:45a.m.  As they get to know a small group of children they explore how God’s Word can change their lives.

Opportunity for Young Musicians:  The Good News Company is a new choir for children in grades 1-5. This choir is specifically designed for children who are excited to learn challenging songs, music theory and how to be a part of the worship leadership experience. Choir participants will need to be present at rehearsals and able to perform at periodic worship services. Rehearsals will be each Sunday morning from 8:20-9:00 in room 113. We look forward to embarking on this new worship adventure! Co-directors are Gail Krause and Bridget Coughlin. This group meets during the school year.

Registration
For the safety of the children in our care, we require a registration form for all children attending events at PWUMC. To fill out a Children’s Ministry registration form for your child(ren) prior to arriving, please print childrens-reg-form-2016-2017. More information about Children’s Procedures.

WOW Meets every Wednesday from 6-7:50 p.m. during the school year. Childcare is also available. For more information, please contact Jen Bruce, Children’s Ministry associate.

Purpose and Philosophy
Sunbeams Preschool is here to provide a warm, loving atmosphere in which children may play, socialize and participate in experiences that meet the developmental stages of early childhood. Our philosophy is that each child has a unique personality and will be treated as a special individual. The small teacher/student ratio allows that personalized treatment. Our purpose is to serve families in our church and community, offering them a comfortable atmosphere for their child’s growth and natural learning experiences.

A Christ-Centered Environment
Especially during your child’s impressionable years, this kind of surrounding means so much. Here your child will learn to love, accept, help and forgive others because Christ first loved and forgave them. At Sunbeams Preschool, children are encouraged to develop their God-given talents in a secure atmosphere of love and acceptance.

What We Offer
We believe in helping children experience all areas of development so that they may be better prepared for their elementary school experience. We provide children an opportunity to learn about cooperation, manners, sharing, social skills, listening and following instructions in a nurturing Christian environment. A day’s activities could include fitness time or music; special “theme” days; exposure to letters, numbers and colors; project time; and just plain having fun. Our teacher/pupil ratio is 1 to 10. Children must be fully toilet trained (no pull ups) to attend Sunbeams preschool.

Yearly tuition is $990 for two-day, $1,422 for three-day and $2,430 for Sunbeams Extreme five-day. The tuition payment is broken down into nine monthly payments of $110, $158 or $270, respectively.  Our nonrefundable registration fee is $70 for two- and three-day, and $100 for Sunbeams Extreme. Hours are as follows:

Parents’ Day Out

Please Note: A completed health form must be on file by your child’s first day of PDO attendance. We do not accept parental or religious exemptions for state-required vaccinations.

PDO Tours are available with a reservation. Please call 816-741-2006 during school hours. This number will take you directly to the PDO and Sunbeams staff.

The Platte Woods United Methodist Church PDO program is in its 46th year of providing quality childcare to children ages 6 weeks to kindergarten (through 5th grade in the summer). The PDO program fits the needs of children of various ages. From our nursery care through the school-age summer program, you can be assured that your child will receive care in a professional, clean environment. As your child grows, the educational opportunities at PDO increase. During the mornings, teachers share in crafts, reading and other fun learning exercises with their students. Afternoons are spent in free play, allowing children to have fun and develop their social skills.

Besides offering professional childcare in a comfortable, age-appropriate and clean environment, PDO offers something many daycares cannot: flexibility. The PDO program does not require commitments for particular periods of time: instead, your child can attend whenever it fits into your schedule. Need to run errands, volunteer at an older child’s school, or just have some “alone” time? Drop your child off that morning (no reservations required, except in the nursery) and know that while you’re accomplishing your goals, your child is well cared for and having a great time. PDO is a state-inspected facility. For more information about PDO, please email or call Jennifer Carrizzo (816-741-2006).

School Year Schedule & Fees

During the school year, PDO is open Monday through Friday,  9 a.m.-3 p.m. each day, with full- and partial-day schedules are available. Extended care program before and after regular PDO hours is now available. Preregistration is required for extended care: please contact Jennifer Carrizzo or Sue Arensberg for more information. Parents can sign up for Extended care at the beginning of each semester.

Cost is full day — $26; 9 a.m.-noon — $17; 9 a.m.-1 p.m. — $20.

Payment is required upon arrival and check-in. We ask that you pay with exact cash or by check (made out to PDO). Late fees apply for children picked up after the close of PDO at 3 p.m. Prepayment options are also available.

The last day of spring semester is Monday, May 22.
