The Farmer's House
Platte Woods UMC is working with The Farmer’s House to host the new Flour Sack Baking Program. The mission of this program is to teach individuals with developmental disabilities valuable vocational skills such as how to safely prepare food and how to plan, bake, package, market and sell a product. Located in the Farm to Fork Kitchen at The Farmer’s House outside Weston on Saturdays from 9:30-11:30 a.m. and at Platte Woods UMC on Mondays from 6-8 p.m., baked goods prepared by the Flour Sack baking program participants will first and foremost be taste tested by the bakers themselves. If the rest of us are lucky, we can enjoy the fruits of their labor as the finished products are sold through The Farmer’s House Market. All proceeds from the baked products and The Farmer’s House Market sales help to sustain the baking and other programs of The Farmer’s House which is a not-for-profit 501(c)3. To volunteer in the baking program you can call The Farmer’s House (816-640-FARM), email Suzanne Zimmerman, or contact Jeff Denton at PWUMC.
