Cancer Prayer Team
The Cancer Prayer Team is a caring group of people that believe prayer makes a big difference in the lives and treatment of cancer patients. This team meets monthly to pray with and for cancer patients. In addition, the team prays throughout the month for those on their prayer list. Use of email allows the team to stay current with specific needs of the cancer patients, such as dates of doctor appointments, test results and treatment schedules that become known in between meeting dates.
Team members gather on the first Tuesday of each month at 6:30 p.m. Everyone is welcome to attend prayer time beginning at 7 p.m. Join us in the transept (northern part of the sanctuary). If you have a friend or loved one who is battling cancer and is unable to attend, please feel free to come and ask for prayer on their behalf.
To submit a cancer patient's name to the Cancer Prayer Team, please contact team coordinators, Jo Ann Hummel (420-9596) or June Mitchell (532-1543). Please provide the name, address and type of cancer. As the contact person, you also will be asked to provide periodic updates, so the prayers can be focused and appropriate.
Specific ways to serve on this team:
- Be a pray-er, committing to daily prayer over those on your portion of the prayer list.
- Be a meeting host/hostess, welcoming those who are coming to be prayed for, helping them sign in and visiting with them while they wait for a prayer team to come get them.
- Be a phone caller, calling the contact person for the people on your portion of the list and reporting the information to the coordinator.
- Be a writer, composing the monthly letter of encouragement that goes out to about 100 patients.
